World Mental Health Day
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and we met up with Laura Day, Middle School School Counselor, to discuss more about this very important issue.
At Stamford, we aim to foster a caring community, which is why Compassion is one of our four values. It is incredibly important that we create an environment where our children feel safe and secure and Stamford has a clear policy in place with regards to bullying.
In addition, 10 Oct was World Mental Health Day and this year’s focus is suicide prevention. According to the World Health Organization, suicide is the second-leading cause of death among those aged between 15-24, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the US showed that rates of suicide among young people have increased significantly.
While these are frightening statistics, the most important message is that teen suicide is preventable. We have included several resources for parents and families, and encourage you to read the information and start this important conversation with your children.
